What if Judy Hopps didn't stepped in the wet concrete during her first argument with Nick Wilde? She would probably have felt more self-confident, and she would have showed Nick that maybe tricking the law is not as easy as he thought... ^^;
After the first checks, police would have found his felony tax evasion, that alone would have got him into jail. Chief Bogo, surprised that Judy has been able to find something like this at first day of work, would have gave her a chance to work on the main case, especially with Mr. Otterton's missing. Through the photo, Judy would have again found that Nick might be involved, but this time, he was going to "give help" from inside an interrogation room, behind the promise of a reduction of sentence. So the movie would have changed a lot from this... ^^;

This is for a contest in the group :iconzootopiafanart:
It is the first time that I join a contest, and I though this was a fun idea. :D
Unfortunately, working on this took me a month or so... ^^; Working on comic pages is a very long process if done alone, especially at my rhythmsDepressed

Well, all that work seems to fulfill the
expectations. :D
Updated: fixed few typos in 3 panels. Thanks to :icondogman15: :)

Took reference for the first panel from the official illustrated book:

We all are kinda accusing Nick for using unsanitary methods to make pawpsicles.

Although, we kinda see Nick eating those himself..
Even at the end of the movie he has one.

Which is strange considering that,
if the pawpsicles really are unhygienic, shouldn't he get sick too??

To be perfectly honest, I would've preferred THIS alternate scenario in the movie to show Nick she's not as clueless or easily manipulated when it comes to bending the law. But Nick sweet talked her out of this part until they meet again to do find Otterton to do some more suckering towards Nick. It's called a hustle sweetheart. ;)

That was amazing work! However, there is a flaw with this reasoning...
Nick: Actually... you are still the dumb one, Carrots. You almost had me there... really! I'm amazed! But there are still a few problems... Number 1: Those gutters are sanitary and are being properly used. Those "pawpsicles" are frozen flavored water. Water... the thing gutters collect. Proper use. Number 2: The snow... and our paws, are sanitary. The snow is fresh-fallen. Made from ice... which is edible. Number 3: You actually think that a mouse's house can survive an earthquake? Still, if it isn't earthquake-proof, it could be used for other purposes. And I did give info...

1. & 2. Whether the gutters and snow were clean or not, we later on see Nick having a pawpsicle himself.

So it's probably that:
I. He isn't aware of the gutter and snow being dirty (somehow).
II. He is aware but doesn't care about his health because.......
III. The gutters and snow were clean (although people will disagree).

3. Not Nick's problem lol. I think they would know where to use it.

4. That's probably illegal (stealing the recipe). But he was never accused for it, despite seeming blatant.

5. It actually seemed like the two were just causing a scene so that someone might persuade the shopkeeper to sell them the Jumbo-pop. Jerry refused to serve him not for being a criminal, but for being a fox (cuz hes racist lol). So whether he was a con artist or not, they would still need someone's help to actually get it.

6. Again Nick has a pawpsicle himself. Kinda similar to 1. & 2.

7.Nick could be investigated

The main difference is the fact that these popsicles are supposed to be consumed by mammals.

1: You're not usually supposed to consume the water collected by a gutter. I mean, have you seen gutters? These things are dirty.
2: You're not usually supposed to eat snow, at least not sell it. And, don't forget Finnick's bare unsanitized paws.
3: Not really an issue for Nick in the first place since the mouse foreman would be the one responsible for the quality of the building materials he buys. If he thinks they're good enough and they turn out not to be, it's his fault that he bought them, Nick just sold them.
4: They thawed the popsicle and then froze it again. I don't know if you're supposed to maintain the cold chain for sugar water, but if you are, then that chain was broken right there.
5: He still lied to Jerry Jumbeaux by posing Finnick as a child to win his sympathy.
6: Depending on where they got the popsicle sticks, they might even not be sanitized either.

Any food safety authority worth its salt would be a lot more finicky than that about regulations. Nick's scheme is definitely unhealthy and it's kind of amazing that he was able to carry on with it for as long as he has.

You just won't let me get this victory, will you? But I still have something to deflect off of...

1. Nick mentioned the gutters being sanitary, being part of the first thing he said. Besides, they are in the middle of a city. Nothing like leaves or dirt will come in.
2. He didn't sell snow. He just froze the sugar water with it. And Nick said "The snow... and our paws, are sanitary." Key word: Our.
3. Comparing that Nick has done the scam since he was 12, I guess that he delivered many other ones. Compared the mouse wasn't fired yet, it must be good.
4. No law includes the cold chain of popsicles. Even in real life!
5. Good point, but it isn't against the law. Even though Nick did lie, Finnick looking like a kid didn't win over Jumbeaux's sympathy. Judy Hopps saw some regulations that Jumbeaux violated. She made a deal to forget it if Nick got the jumbo pop.
6. I believe the popsicle sticks were from the jumbo pop stick.

I'm quite good at this. Zootopia is basically my favorite animated movie. I like winning arguments over it.

Ummm...if I may

1. This one goes to the creator, Dexter01992: The wording could be better. Judy basically says here that gutters are only meant for draining rain water and not any other fluids. But draining other fluids down the gutter is not exactly illegal.
Zacx15: Gutters, wherever they may be, can get dirty. Cities have lots of pollutants which can accumulate in the gutter. Even if it is fresh from the factory, they usually apply chemicals to decrease corrosion. This also applies to the roof where they melted the popsicle on.
Nick saying that the gutter is sanitary turns it into a "your word vs my word" situation. It's not a strong point for a short comic.
2. This too turns into a "your word vs my word" situation.
Also, freshly fallen snow does not mean clean. Again, cities have lots of pollutants which the snow can absorb. This is what happens in acid rain.
3. To Dexter01992 again: I agree with BrainPhotography, it really isn't Nick's problem if the red wood isn't earthquake-proof. It's the foreman's job to evaluate the materials they use. It would be his problem if the foreman didn't buy them due to substandard quality.
Zacx15: If their building regulations are any good, yes, I think a mouse's house can survive an earthquake. Also, the foreman not being fired does not necessarily mean the materials are good. It could just be lack of investigation or luck.
4. I have no clue what either of you are talking about here but I think the problem here is Nick is stealing the recipe of the shop. He's selling those popsicles like it's his own recipe which to my knowledge is illegal. They may look different but they are essentially the same.
5. To BrainPhotography: The shop reserves the right to decline a customer but what Nick was trying to do is to fool the clerk into sell him a popsicle, to not decline him. If you ask me, fooling someone in that situation isn't an offense.
6. Where the popsicle sticks came from is irrelevant. The question is: are they sanitary? And again, this turns into a "your word vs my word" thing.

To add to this.
7. The parts where a transaction is traceable, Nick has already covered. Judy has no evidence that nick did anything wrong. This again becomes a "your word vs my word" thing which is where Judy learned to use a recording device. The best Judy can do is to have him investigated but then the chances of that happening, being a meter-maid and new to the force and a rabbit officer and all, is slim.

Before I reply, this has become a full out comment conversation. XD

1. Just because it has been in the gutter, it doesn't mean they haven't purified the liquid for consumption. Nick could have extracted the chemicals and materials from the water.

2. Not many pollutants will be absorbed by all the layers of snow. The top layer is just about safe from the pollutants on the ground. Even if pollutants are a problem, it doesn't mean the pollutants will ruin the pawpsicles. There might be a few things wrong, but it won't be a disaster.

3. Lack and luck for so many years? I highly doubt it would be that.

4. This doesn't mean that he hasn't added or removed some ingredients from the water. Who knows? It might taste like strawberry instead of cherry.

5. Thank you!

6. The sanitary level of the popsicle stick would be traced back to Jumbeaux, who's services were already unsanitary in the first place.

7. This is true in some sort of way. Nick could be investigated, but just to add, Judy herself wasn't the perfect shot. She did a few crimes as well, like trespassing on a construction site (hiding in the grass to spy on Nick), stalking Nick (following him everywhere), and even staying in the parking spot too long... (points at the parking meter that just went off near Judy's car)

LOL! That was just a joke!

1. The problem here is whether the gutter is clean or not which ended as a "your word vs my word".
Nick sterilizing the liquid is another topic and comes after the result of this one. This requires investigation.
2. It's not just the top layer. Snow absorbs the most pollutants while falling. Even so, contaminated snow is still unsanitary. Making consumable products requires a pristine working environment. There might be a few things wrong but that should be enough to get you shut down.
3. Yet it happens. This becomes irrelevant because whatever happens to the foreman, we will never know as it is no longer Nick's problem and, by extension, not ours.
4. "your word vs my word". This also requires investigation.
5. You're welcome.
6. This is the same as the foreman being liable for using substandard materials. Whether or not Nick's sticks came from Jumbeaux's, if Nick did not sanitize them, it would be Nick's problem not Jumbeaux's and again, "your word vs my word"
7. Nick is the one being questioned, not Judy. Judy's methods are in a different case of its own.

Although, seeing that Nick has been doing this since he was 12, as he claims, and no one seems to have a problem, maybe all of his materials are sanitary and he is in the clear. But then, it could just be luck. An investigation is what'll clear things up.

Also, if you suggest the characters did things off screen as an argument, then this whole thing isn't for the comment section. Proving if they did or didn't do things would be impractical in a comment section and, some, impossible. This will likely lead us to the realm of "we don't know" and inconclusion. This is the biggest reason why we stick to simplicity here and assume that all that was shown is all that they did. If you wish to have a debate on this, please PM me so that we don't clutter this comment section with speculation.

Although that expression was the best fit for the tax evasion part. I can't think of another crime he committed that's worse. Although this comic shed light on the seriousness of his poor hygienic services on other mammals.. we're talking millions but that's only if any of them got sick and knew he was the cause which probably hasn't happened much. I don't if this correct for this comic, but I have to say these two things.

Second: It's called a hustle sweetheart.
